The PIXIS is the only scientific CCD camera in the world which provides guaranteed vacuum performance for the entire lifetime of the instrument. Exclusive PI vacuum technology features 100% UHV-grade components in a stainless-steel vacuum chamber hermetically sealed with all-metal seals. High-performance brazing techniques are utilized for the optical-window / vacuum-chamber interface.
Cutting-edge, all-metal vacuum seals and active vacuum maintenance technology (e.g., getter) eliminate outgassing. No epoxies are used which might compromise the vacuum over time.

The PIXIS offers a high-speed USB 2.0 interface for seamless connectivity with desktops and laptops. The system also delivers true 16-bit data at 2MHz readout speed. For example, 500 spectra/sec is merely standard operation for the PIXIS, while "custom" readout modes push this even further. The PIXIS rids users of cumbersome PCI cards and "claims" of USB2.0 with readout speed restrictions. Convenience and performance without compromise.

Compact design . . . one camera head . . . no external boxes or controllers . . .
The PIXIS system's unrivaled, state-of-the-art technology comes in a single, compact (6.5" x 4.65" diameter) package. Its low-noise electronics and analog-to-digital converters are located close to the CCD directly within the camera head. This use of Primary Point Digitization™ helps the PIXIS achieve the lowest read noise possible, unlike systems that house crucial readout electronics on PCI cards situated in noise-prone environments such as computers. Meticulous care goes into the selection of components as in the overall electronic design of the system. As a result, the PIXIS achieves extraordinarily low read noise, even while running at ultra-high readout speeds.
Single input window . . . minimal light loss . . .
To minimize light loss caused by reflections at the optical surfaces, the PIXIS utilizes only one vacuum-chamber window in the light path. Also, operators can coat the vacuum window on both sides with AR coating specially optimized for the wavelength of interest (VIS-AR, NIR-AR, UV-AR), which gives the PIXIS the highest throughput of any detector in the market. For broad spectral range from deep UV to NIR, an MgF2 window is also offered.

The PIXIS platform supports 1340 x 100 and 1340 x 400 format CCDs which deliver the highest sensitivity possible and >16-bit dynamic range for spectroscopy applications. These proprietary CCDs deliver 30% more resolution than industry standard 1024 pixel devices and are available with front-illuminated, back-illuminated, and deep-depletion technologies. Operators can further enhance UV sensitivity with a PI proprietary CCD coating Unichrome.

PI's exclusive dual-amplifier configuration (high-capacity or low-noise) enables the PIXIS to be utilized in high-light level absorbance or low-light level Raman applications. Six independent gain settings (e-/ADU) allow operators to fine-tune the camera.
The PIXIS platform supports 2048x2048, 1024 x 1024 and 512 x 512 format devices with front- and back-illuminated technologies for imaging applications. These devices deliver low read noise and large full well for the best imaging performance possible. Back-illuminated 1024 CCDs are available with an enhanced UV process for extreme ultraviolet sensitivity.
The PIXIS: 2048 also supports dual amplifier configuration for optimized performance in either low light level applications or applications requiring high dynamic range (large full well).

Triggering and shutter control with advanced operation at your fingertips . . .
Full triggering (± edge) and shutter control (TTL signals) are available for experiments requiring external synchronization of the PIXIS camera. No breakout boxes are necessary to access the trigger signals. All PIXIS systems have a LEMO® connector on the back panel of the camera head in order to directly drive external shutters (25 mm). PIXIS systems manufactured for imaging applications come complete with an integrated shutter in the nose of the camera head.
